“Monday is for Suicide” tells the story of nearly 30 protagonists who, independently and in a variety of ways, have encountered the topic of suicide.
Despite the omnipresence of the issue and the high number of suicides, it receives little attention in the general social context. This work aims to bring a special kind of attention to the topic of suicide through the medium of photography.
Why do around 10,000 more people die by suicide in Germany each year than from traffic accidents, illegal drugs, murders, and AIDS combined?
Why is every social class affected, regardless of gender, age, or origin? Why does everyone know someone in their immediate or extended circle who has experience with this issue, yet there is hardly any public discourse about it?
How do relatives and people who work with suicides cope with them?
I want to explore these and similar questions using photographic means.
